Very high viscosity with a low viscosity-temperature coefficient, high shear resistance and high compressibility gives steady, temperature-insensitive damping for precision instruments (it meets Federal Spec VV-D-1078), and it doubles as a dielectric fluid and a slow-migrating release and plastics/textile additive.
