Hexamethyldisiloxane (HMDSO) is the shortest linear siloxane, consisting of two trimethylsilyl groups linked by an oxygen bridge. It has very low molecular weight, very low viscosity (~0.65 cSt at 25°C), and high volatility. HMDSO is used as a chain stopper in PDMS polymer production, as a carrier fluid, and as a laboratory solvent.
